ETIAS is often called a “visa”. It is not. Here is how the three systems compare.

The key difference

A visa is a decision about you, based on an interview or documents. ETIAS is a pre-travel security screening for people who already may travel visa-free. It is quicker and cheaper.

And EES?

EES applies to everyone on a short stay, with or without a visa, and with or without ETIAS. It records your entries and exits at the border.

Which one do you need?
